Today marks the return of the student, dragged away from its slumber of two weeks, The holidays have been refreshing but its always good to be back to work and having something to do. Today in class Patrick has delivered us the assignment books and has briefly gone through the assignments. The first assignment is the Music video, for this we have been assigned with the task of figuring out which songs we have ideas for and then planning a pitch that we could deliver to the musicians in order to persuade them to choose us.
Music videos and pitching - 30/07/2015
This week has been a frantic battle of trying to gather as much ammunition as possible to use within our pitch. I have found myself working each night until 11 pm when SIT closes. During this time and class time I have been jotting ideas for two songs; the first, "Nothing to you" by Joanna Buchanan and the second by Connor. Working through the the nights I managed to record the lyrics throughout the whole of Joanna's song, which has helped me figure out what the story would be about and the camera shots I would use. From here I have created a brief story board to hopefully further help persuade Joanna to pick my song.
Below are a few of the pictures and a storyboard that I included in my pitch, these are also part of my preparation to some shots I would like to use within my music video.

Baby formula problem solving, with key words - 13/08/2015
Patrick decided that today for class we would learn and practice how advertising for companies works. But first we had to understand some new jargon to even come close to understanding how advertising functions in the real world. The first new addition to my knowledge of language was the abbreviation RFP. RFP? Yeah, if that was thrown at me in the real would it would take me a long time to decipher its meaning. Thankfully Patty G was here to save the day! Rather obvious and explanatory, RFP stands for request for proposals. This will contain content details in the product and the target market/demographics. Next came the "response" which is obviously the creative brief in with advertising companies reply. Patrick then went on to discuss what "insights" stood for. Insights are the market research, the data analysis that inform and provide angles on the creative brief. Finally we learnt about "Deck" which is the visual presentation that will often incorporate PowerPoint and pre-vis artworks.
Now that the jargon is out of the way we were ready for a task. The task we were presented with was; a RFP was sent out by a company that was suffered a baby formula scare and has had to recall their product. This left our groups to discuss, research and confront the problem. The target market that we were aiming for would be mothers ages 20-40. The idea would be to gather the trust of kiwi mothers by advertising that this was a new and improved product that was even better for your baby.
Class notes:
RFP - Request for proposals, "content details in product, target market/demographics".
Response - "creative brief".
Insights - based on the market research, data analysis, inform + provide angles on create brief.
Deck - Visual presentation that will incorporate often power points presentations and pre-vis artwork.

TVC Clients - 20/08/2015
We had potential clients come into SIT and deliver a brief about themselves and what they are in need of for a TVC. We had four clients deliver a brief. The clients were; Habitat for humanity Invercargill, Love local charitable trust, Foveaux harmony chorus and Invercargill districts budget advisory service. Unsure of which client I would receive I tried to record as much information down as possible, I found noting the information was the hardest part about meeting these clients as they spoke so quickly and did not pause, due to this I aimed to focus on the company slogans or logos and things that the clients wanted the main message to be. After these clients where gone the class soon drew names out of a hat, my TVC would be on the Habitat for humanity Invercargill. Today I have figured out the my blog has been sitting in a draft version the whole semester, this mean Patrick and anyone else wouldn't have been able to see what i'm typing!! Apologies Patrick! I have been writing each week. I have also been looking at other blogs from class and mine is different, instead of all being within the same post and updating this post weekly, they seem to be creating a new blog weekly? hopefully this doesn't affect my grade.
Below is a copy of some notes I quickly jotted during our clients brief.

TVC assessment (pitch) - 27/08/2015
To begin this lesson Patrick gathered us around the center table, here we had a brief recap of the documentaries we had previously watched to do with marketing.
As per expected the valid example of marketing came to discussion which was of course, make-up and how marketing has made females think that they are ugly without it. But sadly enough this is a really good example.

How to sell ice to Alaska? Kiwiblue is looking to break into the Alaskan market with its frozen ice packs, Kiwiblue is a new contestant in the international market. Besides the country of origin, there is little difference between its products and the competing markets.
Keywords, convenient, clean, pure,
Target market: Mid to upper class figures, People who chill their refreshments such as house holds, bars and businesses.
For this I would portray the idea of Kiwiblue ice being pure, clean ice sourced from carefully selected river around New Zealand. Also backing this idea would be the idea the Kiwiblue ice is convenient. Why settle for dirty snow when you could chill your drinks in the purest exotic water. Also to exploit the reputation of NZ being a clean country.
